Medium/Heavy Armor impacts Spellcasting Success Chance

I just stumbled upon the fact that wearing Medium Armor (15-34.9s total equipment weight) lowers spellcasting success chance, and Heavy Armor (35s+ total equipment weight) lowers it even more.

Do any webpages here go into more detail about this? I didn't even realize it (despite having played this for years) until I coincidentally noticed my spell success chance fluctuating.

(Though I now found out it's mentioned in-game in Help -> Equipment Weight, woops)

Some of it is either a little wrong or I'm just completely misunderstanding something.

Medium Armor weight - 8%
Heavy Armor weight - 18% (20% in Elona+)

Those numbers are true- but only for spells already close to 100% spellcasting success chance. The effect of Medium/Heavy Armor is greater the farther away a spell is from 100%. EDIT: Maybe those numbers are the minimum effect possible? If that's true then ouch, switching to Light Armor and ditching my shield.
