(Oct. 10: updated link and changelog with Fix 2 of the 1.40 version.)
(Nov. 11: axfc link is down - use the dropbox link instead (don't have to have dropbox installed)).
(Nov. 14: both links are down, presumably due to copyright dispute. Game publication is promised to resume in ver1.41).
Koala Arc (?) has been added to the "End of Revenge" subquest (Progression to the 3rd story chapter is necessary)
Three new monsters were added
In Subjugation (Panic!, I think - maybe Challenge) quests, enemies that split or summon new enemies will no longer increase the enemy counter.
Anniversary with pets can now be seen from the conversation menu. It will first update when you become friends, and then will be replaced with marriage date if/when you get married.
For pets that you're already married or friends with, the date will be set to when you first talk to them after updating.
On your anniversary (not the first year), if you give your pet a present, a token of friendship, a engagement ring, or an engagement necklace, the favor gained will be doubled.
We may in the future include an actual anniversary event, but for now it's just for flavor.
When crafting the coffin of necromancy, your alchemy skill level will provide a bonus.
The required materials will be cut by two, not limited to the heart. (?)
There will be small variations in the generated level of the undead summoned.
Furthermore, your anatomy skill will receive experience when your summoned undead defeats an enemy.
The level adjustment regarding consecutive wins/rank in the pet arena has been modified.
Abnormal Status: When bound, your dodge rate will be reduced to 1/5th or normal.
The courage feat has been modified, increasing the damage done as your HP drops.
It will not be applied to the normal enemies of Awakened dungeons (it will apply to bosses though)
The AP cost has been reduced to 1500, and the difference will be refunded to you if you have the feat at the time of updating.
This may temporarily put you over the 2000AP limit, but be careful as acquiring any AP in this state will reset you to 2000AP.
Skill: Mana Burst has been changed from relying on max mana and consuming twice that value to relying on your current mana and consuming that value.
Furthermore, when low or negative on MP, the magic stat and magic multiplier will determine the MP consumption.
Also, if an ally uses it, it will not hit other allies, no matter what.
Anything summoned inside the pet arena will act like a member of the audience so as not to interfere with the attacks and movements of the participants.
Pets obtained from scrolls of ally, diaries, monster balls, or gifts from gods will not have unexpected variations. (?)
The penalty to skill and attribute experience gains as they increase in levels has been reduced to 2/3 of its current rate.
When an absolute piercing attack procs (not attacks from 100% pierce weapons), after damage is applied, the attacked unit's PV will be significantly decreased for three turns.
For bullets, it will only last 1 turn.
I don't understand this one. Something like "Unique pets and death sentence, personal belonging destruction, and ability decline due to anorexia vomiting can't be disabled". I'll update it if I figure out what it's saying.
The staff gauge technique will now reduce the targets DV significantly for 5 turns.
The power of the magic gauge attack has been adjusted slightly upwards.
A slight HP/MP recovery has been added based on damage done.
A power gauge that has reached 100% will not be reduced at the end of a turn.
The PC's gauge attack will no longer go off automatically at 100%, but must be used with the "Power Release" skill.
The next attack will the use the gauge technique. Using Power Release will not take up a turn.
Existing characters will aquire the Power Release skill when updating. New characters will receive it on their first level up.
Pets will only use their gauge when in assault mode.
When the PC or a pet's gauge technique is used (including other player's pets in online rooms), damage will not stop at 50% of the targets HP if it exceeds that value. (?)
Skill: Strikeout will apply to the target, regardless of their relationship value. (?)
The generation of ruins of Nefia (dungeons) will now be dependant on: Continent, main story progress, and max dungeon depth (?) at this ratio: 2:2:1.
In addition, the max depth value will decrease to the main quest value at the time of updating.
The max enchantment level from scrolls has been increased by 2 in all cases.
Furthermore, the cost to upgrade at equipment stores has been significantly decreased.
[Fixes (1.40)]
When potions are thrown when part of a tag team, the target can be chosen.
When forming a tag team with an ally that is sped up, that speed will no be taken into account.(?)
The damage taken when entering a certain boss battle in the third part of the main story has been fixed in regards to saving/loading.
Fixed an issue when deriving socks where equipped socks would be counted(?)
The karma loss when hitting friendly NPCs has been adjusted for certain PC attacks.
In regards to composition recipe data (?), corrected an issue in the development version where data from the stable version would become unreadable (?)
Fixed an issue with the fusion pot where the game would sometimes crash when accessing the 2nd page.
Fixed the massive load times when having a large winning streak in the pet arena.
The pet arena bonus was not properly capping at 300 wins, which has been corrected.
Fixed an issue with tag teaming with a pet when there was no space on the map.
When taking over a "link net"(? from an online map?) companion, cumulative AP will be set to 0.
Fixed an error that would sometimes occur when handing a pet a weapon following a performance or preaching.
Fixed an issue when the skill ? (literally "spatial holding effect") was used where the effect would be applied to characters not in that spot.
[Fixes (1.40fix)]
Fixed an issue when entering subjugation maps where an afterimage of tagteam characters would be created.
Adding a missing unique attribute to a certain boss NPC
Fixed an error with the magic gauge technique that would occur if not equipped with anything.
Also, made some adjustments should the attack be triggered by a ball spell.
Changed the variable that stores anniversary date.
For pets you've already married or are friends with, speak to them again after updating to reset it.
Fixed an error that would occur when gene engineering with a tag-teamed pet.
[Fixes (1.40fix2)]
Fixed an issue with Skill: Body Blow when target was nonexistent.
Also, fixed an issue where, should you finish off the enemy with the regular attack that precedes the body blow effect, you would attack another unit.
Fixed an error that would occur when Squeeze was used when having less than 10 strength.
Fixed an error that would occur when vomiting due to the effect of Skill: Voracity Fang when satiety level was already in a critical state.
Fixed an error that would occur at the ending of some skills such as BakuretaKen.
Looks like there's still a significant bug in 1.40fix. Combat is basically unplayable for me.

Sorry.
Seems to happen roughly 20% of the time when my pet uses BakuretuKen. Guess I'll either have to shelf my pet until they release a fix, or just stick to non-combat things for a while. Ironically, I don't remember this happening at all with the little bit of playing I did with 1.40.
2. if Im readng the 2/3s on attribute gain from skill training correctly, they just made the game a hell of alot more grindy. most attribute gain is from using skills. So this would be about a 25% reduction in attribute gains. If this is true I'm not upgrading. This is not fun. Don't like super nerfs like this that just come out of the blue. Am I reading this correctly?
3. Anyone mess with the coffin of necromancy? I think as my jeweller and other skills go up the crafted gems sell for more. I think i was getting 27k for a bless crafted diamond in pot for fusion and now pets get 28k I think...
4. What was the max enchnantment from scrolls before? I think regular armor/weapons was up to 3 and greater 5. then you had to buy it up.
5. "from the distant stars quest". anyone know where you pick it up ? rewards/details?
It's okay I guess. I'm raising a golden knight from scratch (no gene engineering for mass levels and/or stats) as a martial arts-based pet. Currently sitting around level 70, main attributes about 200, and skills in the 130 range. On enemies lvl 100 or higher, she does about 1600 per hit with her fists, and ~800 from attribute (magic damage). The BakuretaKen explosion does about 600. I'm not sure how much it'll scale, or if it'll scale at all, really, so it may end up totally useless. For now though, it's an okay amount of extra damage.
@Anonymous user
Pet arena /seems/ to be easier. I think the enemy levels don't scale as fast.
As for attribute gains, I think I mistranslated that. (I blame it on doing it too late at night!). Should be: "The penalty to skill and attribute experience gains as they increase in levels has been reduced to 2/3 its current rate.". E.g., going from 100 to 101 used to take more actual experience than going from 1 to 2. That has been reduced to 2/3 of what it is now, so it should be easier to get attribute and skill gains as you progress than it was before. Hopefully SiamJai will change that one.
No idea on your other questions. I can look around the JP wiki for the distant stars quest though.
From The Distant Stars (Lv 140)
Client: <Jin> the machine rebel
Content: Annihilation of space creatures
Condition:
Reward: Usamimi, 3 water, 5 chips, 2 batteries
Guide: A large quantity of creatures from space will attack.
There is no boss enemy, so a decently leveled adventurer should
be able to take them head on.
I don't know what the chips/batteries are, but that's a translation of what the JP wiki has on it at the moment.
Edit: The "batteries" are "Accumulator" in the English version, the item for lightning resist on artifact fusion. Still no idea on the chips. Wishing for it in JP just gives the microchip items, which would seem a strange thing to be a quest reward.
@anna: Thanks. I made the post above. I tried making an account a few weeks ago, but never got a confirmation email (I use gmail so its not on my side). I am at level 102. I don't think its that hard to get attributes because by this point potions of potential are so plentiful I am at 'superior' all the time and the scrolls of growth are so easy my skills are generally above 200% and higher. This might get too easy. You don't have access to this kind of easy potentials at low levels... Plus throw in the learning bonus you get as of 1.39. (at 560 my skills train about twice as fast as they used to).
That pet arena is a great way to get everyones potentials up and will help your golden knight out. At 100 wins each pet gets 200k gold (as long as they are alive, not on a farm, or shop). So its 10 trains.
Ill test out the pet arena soon. I suicided at 100 wins. My bell of terminatoin couldn't beat an atlas and its guaranteed he hits one before 200 wins. The explanation implies your arena bonus goes up at 200 and 300 wins.
Sure thing! :) Also added translated release notes unique to 1.40fix (thanks, Anna) and formatted the sub-bullets for better readability. As for the rest, I wish I could play it more - too many interesting questions, too little time! XD
1. pet arena seems the same. I did not notice any difference. I got up 1 mosnter level per win. Note I am rank 1 in pet arena.
2. Used power gauge. Levecl 200 DL. Sleepy Giant Boss. Probably circa level 260. Was doing about 94 damage with my crystal spear. Used gauge and did almost 6000. I don't think it was that big of an increase. I think the big increase in damage put me above his magic resistance. It would be nice if there was some animation to tell you that guage is availble. If its in the notes area its hard to notice.
Here something that was not in the release notes. In 1.39 rewards for hunting jobs were radically reduced. They seem to be back to normal. I was seeing x30 hunting jobs paying 4000 gold. now x17 jobs are paying 17000. its back to the way it used to be.
Big Daddys seem alot harder. I dont know if they are scaling with the DL or if its my 250k fame (with pet arena wins) making them much harder. I was mowing them down for a while.
game crashed on me whe my bell was in the arena. I dont know what he was doing. I dont know how the original poster could tell what his pet was doing when the game crashed.

I want to put out 1.40fix2, but I can't reproduce
the warping issue some people are having when Magic Arrow
fails to cast. The reports so far haven't included much
information at all. I can't even tell if it's something
newly introduced or not.
Seems like it's already been fixed and we're just waiting on them to find out what this other bug is before we get 1.40fix2.
Ano posted again today, adding some additional bugfixes that should make it into 1.40fix2 whenever it's released. This is the list of bugfixes for 1.40fix2 so far:

Fixed an issue with Skill: Body Blow when target was nonexistent.

1.40fix2 has been released. You can find it here .
It includes the bug fixes mentioned in my above post. Looks like there are will some bug reports coming in though, so we may end up seeing a fix3, who knows. Nothing I see from Ano about that yet.
go anna. you have been really updating the wiki alot lately. good work and thanks.
I have been doing the pet arena alot up to fight 100 (I cant get to 200) and the difficulty seems about the same. I dont see any differences. Not sure what is being referred to in the changelist.
Edit: The "batteries" are "Accumulator" in the English version, the item for lightning resist on artifact fusion. Still no idea on the chips. Wishing for it in JP just gives the microchip items, which would seem a strange thing to be a quest reward.
Just did the quest, and that's what it is (microchip). Strange indeed - at first I thought it to be the robot's remains, but then he is found in the spaceship after quest completion, with more dialogue. So maybe the chips are just a "flavor-reward".
Hmm, I'm not sure about the pet arena thing. I went back to look at the JP log again, but I don't think I mistranslated it. Who knows what they did.
Yeah, that's really weird about the microchip reward. I wonder if they maybe plan a use for them sometime in the future? Probably just flavor like you said though.
My bell of terminaton lost 2 of his 4 hands when I upgraded to 1.40fix or 1.40fix2. I need to check. going to try to add them back on using Gene Engineering. Something may have changed in the game. there is one other way to lose body parts and that is from an NPC in port Kapoor. I did not speak to this npc.
Sorry, I should have posted earlier. After 1.40fix2 was released, someone posted in the JP thread with the same issue (well, same type of issue - loss of a leg slot). According to him, it happens when going to the 1.40fix2 release only. E.g., no issue going from 1.39 to 1.40fix, but going from there to 1.40fix2 or straight to 1.40fix2 causes the issue, although only with one specific pet. When I checked earlier there had been no response to it yet. I'll keep an eye out and post if I see anything about a fix coming.

Ano made a post mentioning this today saying that it has to do with some adjustments they made to some variables in 1.40fix2 (specifically resetting some that got "shifted", I think). Sounds like he's going to allow you to add a part(s?) to a pet when going from any of the 1.40 releases to 1.41 to make up for it. Just in case you were wondering
In the meantime, I'd probably gene engineer it back on or do it with elosnack.
The generation of ruins of Nefia (dungeons) will now be dependant on: Continent, main story progress, and max dungeon depth (?) at this ratio: 2:2:1.
In addition, the max depth value will decrease to the main quest value at the time of updating.
So the max danger level of random dungeons will be limited to the the max danger level you've visited for your current quest? Times two when you get to South Tyris, and times two again when you get to Lost Irva?
@khym: what is the max danger level in South Tyris? I have been to lost irva, but didnt do any of the main quest yet. In 1.39, I was getting DLs generated into the 500s. Now they max at about 250.
Khym Chanur wrote: The generation of ruins of Nefia (dungeons) will now be dependant on: Continent, main story progress, and max dungeon depth (?) at this ratio: 2:2:1.'In addition, the max depth value will decrease to the main quest value at the time of updating.

The way I took it is that the formula is something like this:
And with the dlFactor just temporarily reset to whatever value the storyFactor is at the time of updating, but will rise again if you do any dungeons higher than that.
As for the story part, I don't think its necessarily doubled after finishing each chapter of the story. E.g, it could go from 40 to 60 going from South Tyris to Lost Irva or something, making the actual amount that they play in the formula being like 80 to 120.
That's just speculation though. After updating, in North Tyris, I mostly had dungeons in the DL100 range, with some outliers here and there. After doing a DL 150 dungeon, and "resetting" the map (making the dungeons regenerate by going to a different continent and coming back), the average seems to have gone up to around DL 115.
The variation seems to be a lot tighter than it was previously. In NT I was getting dungeons close to DL 300 before, with plenty of DL 20-30 or lower as well. After the update, I've seen a total of one dungeon with a single digit DL, and only 2-3 below DL 70. Guess we'll need some more testing to see how tightly everything plays into it.
I wish there was some way to lower nefia clear level once you've gotten it higher. having a high level is good for catching uber aliens, but lower is handier for farming nefia tears.
I dont see them letting you lower the dl generation. That would be too easy. That being said there are always lower level dungeons, just less of them. There 3 continents and multiple items to regenerate dungeons.
The hard part is keeping your lockpicking up to open chests. I got skillbook but when dungeons are going up in 50 dl chunks its too much to grind.
Are you sure aliens level with the dungeon DL? I thought that only happened in dungeons with 'wakeup nefia', but in wakeup nefia dungeons you can't dominate. I'm confused.
bells of termination have 2000 speed + can add 4 hands + damage reduction. by far the best pet.
That link was for 1.40fix2 (both Ano and the Japanese wiki still list it as such).
Normally a deleted file would mean that a new version is up, but I couldn't find one in the dev thread. If anyone finds a new working link, feel free to post it here.
In the meantime, I'll update the original post. Thanks for the heads-up!
Well 1.40fix2 has been "removed from public" or something as what the googlydoogle translator roughly says and "resume to the public" will be with 1.41. If anyone ever comes along and wonders why both dropbox and the other download is down.
1.41 is out now. Stumbled upon the link at 4chan's /jp/ of all places. That includes a changelog summary with it. Don't want to make a release post since I wouldn't be around to maintain it more than likely.
Finally, yay! Checked the E+ devthread for additional notes/updates on the new release, but so far so good. Our topic on the 1.41 is here: http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:14561
