The master thief is the strongest of the three "thief" NPCs (compare thief and robber).

They will usually (70%) attempt to move to melee range before attacking. Their attacks consist of dual wield melee attacks, using their thrown weapon if not adjacent (75%), and the suspicious hand special action (25%), which steals some of the target's gold.

They have the cDropGold bit flag which makes them drop all their gold upon death.

Enemy master thieves always drop some money (presumably from prior thefts) when killed, even if they haven't stolen from you. As allies, because they have the highest Charisma and Negotiation skills of the three types by far, they make excellent shopkeepers.
