There are three guilds in the world of Elona, the thieves guild, the mages guild and the warriors guild. To gain access to a guild you must first speak to a guild representative and complete the quest they give you. You may only be in one guild at a time but can change to another guild after being accepted by the first at the risk of being attacked for treachery by your old guild mates. Each guild headquarters has all the standard NPCs (e.g. healer, salesman, trainer, etc) and will be safe from guards while inside.
If you gain entrance to a guild without permission (e.g. teleporting the watchman away), you may use a scroll of incognito or a disguise kit to reset the status of the guild to neutral. Even after expiry you will be able to interact with the guild as if you were a member, excluding quests of course.

[edit] Thieves Guild
The Thieves guild is located in the pub in Derphy. You must complete a quest from the thieves guild representative that requires you not to pay taxes for several months. It's not possible to join the guild as a character of level less than 6 to dodge tax all together, however.
The Thieves Guild is the only way to learn Pickpocket and Disarm Trap for characters that do not start with them. There is also an NPC that will sell lockpicks and disguise kits regardless of membership, useful for people that need to buy lockpicks and are not able to use the Incognito spell.
Membership in the Thieves Guild allows players access to fences who will purchase stolen goods and quests that involve stealing certain items.

As there are disguise kits inside the Thieves Guild, it is possible, but impractically difficult, to use them to cast incognito in order to use the guild's services without being a member and without having any other source of the incognito spell.
[edit] Fighters Guild
The Fighters Guild is located in the arena in Port Kapul. The quest to gain membership will involve killing a certain monster a number of times.
The Fighters Guild is the only way to learn Dual Wield, Eye of Mind, and Tactics for classes that do not start with them.
Membership in the Warriors guild reduces the costs of having items identified/investigated by 50% as well as the cost of using the Healer services by 50%(This applies to ALL providers of these services in EVERY town.)

[edit] Mages Guild
The Mages Guild is located in the northwest of Lumiest. Gaining membership will require you to translate books to gain points, 30 points are required.
The Mages Guild is the only way to learn Memorization, Magic Capacity, Control Magic and Greater Evasion for classes that do not start with them.
Membership in the Mages Guild gives players the ability to reserve spellbooks they have already read from an NPC on the east side of the guild entrance. Eventually, the NPC should refresh its inventory and will be stocked with several copies of reserved spellbooks.
