<Vesda> the Fire Dragon is an unique hostile NPC. He is the boss of the optional dungeon Dragon's Nest, found north of Derphy. He is found on the 4th floor.

His area is U-shaped and littered with chests and bejeweled chests. It is not a hard fight if you have a few pets and/or good fire resist.

As expected, being a fire dragon, Vesda has superb resistance to fire along with little resistance in all elements except for raw magic.

Vesda can attack from close and far with fire breath, but will try to close into melee range as soon as possible. He uses his breath attacks in tandem with normal attacks, which do fire damage. While he is fairly strong, he's also not particularly noteworthy otherwise, and with appropriate fire resistance can be taken down without much difficulty.

Killing him rewards you with the <Gloves of Vesda>, a rather useful artifact equippable in the Arms slot.

Eating his corpse grants a big fire resistance bonus. His gloves also grant fire resistance, so consider defeating Vesda if you plan to go to the Tower of Fire.

Customization[]

The sprite number for <Vesda> the fire dragon is 338. Because he has a large sprite, any replacement must be 48x96.

Elona+ Changes[]

His sex was changed to female. Vesda now spawns at level 40 with adjusted stat and skill gains. She gains the Analysis, Detection, Eye of Mind, Anatomy, Control Magic, and Firearm skills.

Also, two new NPCs bearing similar names can be found as bosses in the South Tyris Main Quest and Ancient fire dragon level 160 quest. Whether they are stronger versions of Vesda, associated individuals, or not, isn't explained.

She can be recruited with the Astral Light Pen if the conditions are met.

Etymology[]

Vesta is the Roman goddess of fire, hearth, home and family.
The sacred fire of Vesta was a sacred eternal flame in Ancient Rome.
